The Bronze Medal game at the 2010 FIFA
World Cup was not only Canadian
Assistant Referee Héctor Vergara's last
appointment at a World Cup, but it also
created a new piece of history. This match
gave Héctor the record for having officiated
in 14 matches at the World Cup Finals, the most by any Refereee or Assistant Referee.

Congratulations Héctor, on this amazing
achievement!

EDSRA life member Dieter Knobloch
passed away peacefully on June 30th, 2010,
after a 10 year battle with cancer.

Dieter was 'one of a kind' as a coach and
referee. His love for the game of soccer was
immense and always there to see (and hear!)

Dieter will be sadly missed in the soccer
community, and our thoughts and prayers
are with Dieter's family at this time.

Obituary can be viewed here.

Referee Appreciation

EDSRA recently received an invitation
from the Edmonton Capitals baseball team
to take part in a "Referee Appreciation Night'.

This would involve a chance for our
association to be recognized at one of the
team's home games, and participate in
one of several 'Capital Experience' events
before, during or after the game.

If you are interested in participating, please
email Dave O'Neill
